Frequently asked questions
- Is this a pawn loan or a regular loan?
- It's a collateralized non-recourse loan against your asset, originated by a California licensed-lender partner. The legal structure is the same — your asset is collateral, you keep ownership unless you walk away from the loan. There is no credit pull and no recourse to your other assets.
- Will this affect my credit score?
- No. We do not pull credit and we do not report to credit bureaus.
- What's the interest rate?
- California asset-loan law sets monthly finance charges by loan size. The exact APR is disclosed in writing at signing. Above $2,500, charges are negotiable. We can quote the rate before you come in.
- How long is the loan?
- Three months by default, renewable indefinitely by paying the monthly finance charge. Most clients renew once or twice and pay off in 3–9 months.
- What if I can't repay?
- We do not pursue your other assets. The collateral asset is sold to recover the loan. Any surplus over the loan balance goes back to you. There is no recourse beyond the asset.
- Where is my asset stored?
- UL-rated vaults at our Downtown LA office or, for vehicles, supervised covered storage. Insured at full appraised value at our cost. You receive a signed receipt with serial numbers, photos, and condition notes.
- Can I see my asset during the loan?
- Yes. Schedule a vault visit any time during business hours.
- Do you handle out-of-state clients?
- Yes — see our travel program. Loans above $250,000 include round-trip airfare and ground transfer to LA.
- What's the largest single-asset loan you've done?
- No fixed maximum on a single asset (typical loans range to $5M+; larger deals syndicated with our lending partners). Larger deals are syndicated with our lending partners.
- What assets do you not lend against?
- Firearms, business equipment, life insurance policies, accounts receivable, and any asset where ownership is contested or title is unclear. (Real estate is now covered under our separate property-lending authority — see property loans.)
- Are you the same as a pawn shop?
- The legal license is the same. The clientele, asset class, loan size, and process are not. Our typical loan is six figures; we do not handle retail pawn traffic, second-hand resale, or consumer electronics.
- How fast can I actually be funded?
- Watches, jewelry, and gold — same day if you're in LA, 24 hours otherwise. Art and vehicles — 24 to 48 hours due to additional verification. We've funded same-day loans of $1M+ on watches when the asset is straightforward. Real estate is 5-14 days depending on documentation.
- Can you buy my asset outright instead of lending against it?
- Yes. We make wholesale-level cash offers on assets — before, during, or after a loan. If you decide mid-loan that you'd rather sell than continue paying finance charges, we'll quote an outright purchase price that nets out the loan balance. Restrictions apply: we don't buy every asset class (real estate purchases require separate paperwork; some art categories are out of our buy-side scope), and final purchase price is set at in-person inspection. Email us for an offer.
- Do you lend against real estate now?
- Yes — bridge loans and equity-backed loans against high-value residential and commercial real estate, $250,000 minimum, 6-24 month terms. These operate under separate California lending authority (not the licensed lender license that covers personal property). See our property loans page for details.
